How did your military service prepare you for the job you do today?
In the military the saying goes “The only easy day was yesterday.” This is very true in the operations of any business. The military prepared me to lead the team to bring their best and rise to any challenge you give them. Never quit.
In my role as the Senior Operations Manager for Vanguard, every day brings on new challenges. NSDQ (“Night Stalkers Don’t Quit”).

How did your military service prepare you for the job you do today?
No two days of aircraft structural maintenance were the same bringing new challenges, knowledge to learn, and tasks to complete, all while working as a team to accomplish any mission brought forward. Haste, safety, and integrity becomes ingrained in you and I believe no other job could have better prepared me for this industry. As an operator of an anaerobic digester, you have to be attentive, responsive, diligent and honest. With constant communication, and things to learn, teamwork is what makes it all happen, and the mission is what drives me. With a large goal of saving our earth, keeping our country safe was the starting point.

The Air Guard taught me organizational skills and discipline that are necessary in my current role. I also learned the importance of leadership at all levels in an organization and the benefits of running with a project and fixing it along the way. Constantly reminded: “If it is to be, it is up to me”.

In my last duty unit, I was the Training NCO for HHC. I oversaw and directed all MOS training and live fire ranges. This was my introduction to running to Safety training! It formatted my leadership style and has made my focus on team building one of my core values.
