Vermont farm turns manure into renewable energy, powering Middlebury College
SALISBURY, Vt. — Dairy farming has been in the DNA of the Goodrich family for three generations.
“There’s just a lot of work that goes into each stick of butter that we eat and each piece of cheese that we have or glass of milk that we drink,” said Chase Goodrich of Goodrich Family Farm.
He’s found a new way to milk his 900 cows for all they’re worth by doing things a little differently.
“This has been a long time coming and its extremely surreal,” said Goodrich.
“We’re about to achieve something that is remarkable for Middlebury, for Addison County, for Vermont,” said Don Rendall, president and CEO of Vermont Gas.
“This is our largest project that we’ve ever built,” said John Hanselman, CEO of Vanguard Renewables.
Massachusetts-based Vanguard Renewables is building a multimillion dollar anaerobic digester.
